Once again we are in the painful task of setting position on the tragedy that overwhelms a town that its greatest blame, is steps in one of the largest reservoirs of fossil fuels on the planet.
Once again another significant accident that will leave undoubtedly sequels many irremediable against the voiceless. The patrimonial damage, ecological and environmental that suffers another natural reserve, another national park, believe it or not, is regarded as “necessary sacrifices” to the global oil industry.
Today the Venezuelan oil production takes on new victims, the painful loss of life under its responsibility and also will have on its conscience the inevitable pollution generated by such incidents.
Unique biodiversity on the planet, endemic and fragile ecosystems, flora and fauna will suffer the consequences of another environmental tragedy caused by the voracious global market of fossil fuels.
At few kilometers from the Caribbean Sea, a huge explosion removed with its blast, about 20 km around, all life in its path. In a region characterized also by its immeasurable wind potential, do not set many hypotheses about the true extent of this infernal punishment that we have suffered.
Precisely we are concerned the true extent about the problems of environmental pollution. The emissions of toxic gases from the complete and incomplete combustion which make them in greenhouse gases, increasing the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere.
Two nature reserves victims of the deadly route of the explosive wave, carried by air currents coming from a Caribbean Sea which is undergoing its biggest hurricane seasons.
The Coro Dunes National Park is located in the northwestern state of Falcon in Venezuela. Its most important area is circumscribed around the isthmus, on the way to the Paraguana Peninsula on the north side of the city of Santa Ana de Coro (World Heritage of Humanity UNESCO).
As in all arid or desert, vegetation and fauna are scarce, and because they are silent minorities , we must honor the variety of birds, reptiles, lizards, iguanas, bats and anteaters, among other mammals inhabiting the area located just 50 kms of the blast site.
And what concerns us most is that only 100 kms from the disaster are the waters of the Caribbean Sea in the Gulf of Venezuela, where the arrival of pollutants would affect mangroves, and coastal ecosystems ranging from Paraguaná Peninsula to the Guajira Peninsula.
Many of the effects as often happens in such cases will be long-term rather than immediate, as this type of disaster that are generated particles, such as soot, but there are many others that do not, and that directly affect the pollution of the atmosphere.
The directive, employees and activists of the Blue Environmentalists Foundation once again request the National , Regional and Municipal State, bear the consequences of the natural disaster that caused this tragedy.
To develop real contingency plans in conjunction with the call for specialists in environmental, ecological and conservationist matter, to join the work of care and recovery of the affected areas.
And to the noble Venezuelan people not to allow on behalf of an industry, sacrifice our natural heritage, for us to sustainability to future generations.
